Thomas Cerabona, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon and specialist in critical care. He sees patients at Advanced Surgeons in Valhalla, New York.
He is the director of bariatric surgery at Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Cerabona has performed numerous bariatric surgeries, both open and laparoscopic. He spent the first seven years of his career performing mainly open gastric bypass, and since 1997, he has converted to a laparoscopic approach. He trained under Dr. Ackerman, one of the country’s premier surgeons and founder of obesity surgery.
In addition to his position as Director of Bariatric Surgery at Westchester Medical Center, Dr. Cerabona is also the assistant director of the surgical intensive care unit at Westchester Medical Center, an attending surgeon at Westchester Medical Center, an Assistant Professor of Surgery at New York Medical College, an attending surgeon at Putnam Hospital Center.
Dr. Cerabona is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous medical societies, including the American Medical Association, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Medical Society of the State of New York, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and Westchester County Medical Society. Dr. Cerabona and his team have performed live surgeries by teleconference at many society meetings. They are also innovators in robotic surgery, being the first to use robotics in gastric bypass surgery in the world.
