What is SmartLipo?

SmartLipo is a minimally invasive surgery that’s a more evolved form of liposuction. Beyond removing fat, SmartLipo tightens the skin in the targeted region to highlight muscle definition. 

During a SmartLipo procedure at Advanced Surgeons, your surgeon makes very small incisions in the targeted area that are small enough not to need sutures. They give you local anesthesia beforehand, and you’re conscious throughout the process. 

Your surgeon places the SmartLipo cannula (thin tube) through the small incisions. The device emits laser energy to disrupt fat cells, stimulate collagen growth, and control bleeding all at the same time. The cannula suctions out the disrupted fat cells. 

What should I expect after SmartLipo?

Even though SmartLipo uses local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia, your provider at Advanced Surgeons may recommend that you have someone else drive you home from your surgery. That is because the local anesthesia can make you drowsy, and the numbness lasts for a few hours. 

When you’re home, you should:

• Control any discomfort with an over-the-counter pain medication
• Rest for at least 24 hours
• Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours
• Drink plenty of water and other fluids
• Eat light meals for 48 hours
• Avoid swimming in pools and bodies of water for four weeks 

You should have someone help you change your bandages following SmartLipo. 

In addition to regular bandages, your surgeon may give you compression bandages to control swelling after the procedure and increase drainage. The incision sites may leak anesthetic solution, which can control swelling and bruising. 

Are the results of SmartLipo permanent?

Generally, SmartLipo and other liposuction methods produce permanent results. The fat cells that the process removes do not come back. 

However, aging may continue to loosen your skin and affect the shape of your body. Still, you can enjoy the benefits of your SmartLipo procedure for years to come. 

Am I a good candidate for SmartLipo?
